Eastern Pipistrelle
The length from head to end of its tail 3-3.6 “, from wing tip to wing tip is 8-10” Weight is .2 to .4 oz.. This is the smallest bat in Minnesota. The fur is tri-colored: the base of the hair is dark, the middle is lighter, and the tip is dark. Color varies from pale yellow to silvery grey to golden brown to black. This bat can live more than 15 years. This bat will migrate a short distance to hibernate. The breeding takes place in the fall. The female will store the sperm and eggs until spring. The gestation is 60 day. The female will usually have two pups. The pups are weaned and able to fly in 30 days.
