The length from head to
end of its tail 2 ½ - 4 “, from wing tip
to wing tip is 9-11” Weight is .2 to .5 oz.. This is a small bat with a
glossy pale tan to brown fur. The coat is evenly colored. Long hair on
the toes extends past the toenails. The ears are small and black and
the tragus is shaped like a pencil. This bat can live over 30 years.
Most bats migrate in the winter but NBWC has found colonies of little
brown bats hibernating in building in the winter. The breeding takes
place in the fall. The female will store the sperm and eggs until
spring. The gestation is 60 day. The pups are able to fly in 14 days
and are adult size at 21 days.
